The Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre provides programs and services for children and youth, who have physical or communicative disabilities, We provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology to enable children to maximize their independence. Our Vision is:

Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology
• Must be members in good standing, or eligible for membership in their respective Ontario Health Regulatory College
•College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
•College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
•College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
•Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

• Social Workers must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s in Social Work
• Pediatric experience would be an asset
• Bilingualism would be an asset

Occupational Therapist

DESCRIPTION:
The position will provide services for infants and preschool aged children.
The duties may include, but not be limited to the following:
Assessment: To provide screening and full assessments enabling the identification of difficulties in the development of a child’s functional abilities in activities of daily living, play and sensory processing. This may include standardized and non-standardized assessment of the child’s neuromuscular, sensorimotor, cognitive, and psychosocial skills as well as the physical and sociocultural characteristics of the child’s environments. Assessment may take place at a variety of locations, such as the Centre, the child’s home, or preschool.
Intervention: to provide direct therapy to individual preschoolers or groups, on site or in community preschools; to provide liaison to SSN Speech Language Pathologists as well as staff of the Infant Education and Parent Teaching program.
Planning: goal setting, material preparation and discharge planning
Data Maintenance: report writing, program stats, charting
Education: providing education to parents, preschool resource and early childhood educators and community service providers.

Recreation Therapist

The position will provide recreation therapy services to all client age groups. The purpose of Recreation Therapy is “to provide treatment, education and recreation participation to enable persons with physical, cognitive, emotional or social limitations to acquire and maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviors that will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally, function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible in society”.  
Assessment: to administer assessments enabling the identification of difficulties with   participation in recreation and leisure activities within the context of a multidisciplinary team
Intervention: to provide direct services to individuals or groups, on site and in community settings; consultation to NPCC staff, parents and other community providers
Planning: Client goal setting, material preparation and discharge/transition planning; community planning to promote  inclusion of NPCC clients
Data Maintenance: report writing, program stats, charting


Physiotherapist

The position will provide services for preschool and school aged children.
Assessment: to administer assessments enabling the identification of difficulties with physical function and gross motor development
Intervention: to provide screening an direct therapy to individual preschoolers or groups, on site or in community preschools; parent education; consultation and collaboration with mediators; to provide consultation to school aged children as part of the NPCC CCAC contract.
Planning: goal setting, material preparation and discharge planning
Data Maintenance: report writing, program stats, charting
Education: providing education to parents, educators and community service providers

Receptionist

The receptionist is often the first contact that the clients, their families, the medical community, suppliers, and the general public have with the Centre. The receptionist will be courteous, tactful and will be helpful to all those who have any business with the Centre. The receptionist works in a manner consistent with centred care.
The incumbent must be fluent in English and French.

Duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Welcome all visitors to the Centre
  • Direct visitors and calls
  • Receive all telephone calls coming into the main switchboard
  • Maintain the central room booking schedule
  • Input data for various databases
  • Notify appropriate Centre personnel of shipping and receiving activities
  • Electronic data entry, sending and receiving and distributing faxes
  • Provide support to other Centre programs as appropriate and directed by the Manager of Administration and Support.
